Benefit for Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline
On Saturday, March 15, 2003, please come join us for a special benefit performance of the play War performed by the Honolulu Theatre for Youth.
War, written by acclaimed Canadian playwright, Dennis Foon is a 45 minute one-act play focusing on four young men on the cusp of manhood. The play provides the viewer with a provocative look at young men who, like the rest of us, live in a world where male violence is accepted, even rewarded. "War" is a study of the universal pressure to "be a man," which is often defined in a very narrow and disastrous way.
The Domestic Violence Clearinghouse and Legal Hotline will offer a post-play discussion on the effects of media, gender roles and teen dating violence to make this theater experience richer and more educational. We hope you will join us in this growing movement to help male youth and the institutions that serve them in re-examining masculinity and building young men's capacity to be strong and empowered without being violent or hurtful.
