Rail Is Not a Done Deal

Did you know rail is not a “done deal”? There are a number of hurdles to be overcome before it can be started. League will hold an informational meeting on Saturday, October 27, at 9:30 am in room 224 of the Capitol.

This event will give the public a chance to ask questions and voice its doubts, or support, of this largest and most expensive public works project in Hawaii’s history.

City councilmember Ann Kobayashi and Melvin Kaku, director of the city’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS), have been invited to answer questions. As of press time, they have not yet agreed to appear. They were asked because Ms. Kobayashi wrote an op-ed in the Star-Bulletin in August, which was rebutted by Mr. Kaku the following week. To see the articles go to starbulletin.com/2007/08/26/editorial/special.html and starbulletin.com/2007/09/02/editorial/special.html.

Traffic engineering professor Panos Prevedouros, who spoke at a recent Honolulu League meeting, will describe his solution to the traffic problem and answer questions.
