Hawaii Drug Policy Study Completed
The Women’s Health and Safety Committee has completed its study developing an initial analysis of the state’s existing drug policies. It is intended to serve as a basis for policy discussion, positions and advocacy. The study also presents recommended policy alternatives and proactive steps that may help address the challenges described. It is our hope that this study, after local League consensus and state approval, will contribute to a much-needed societal debate around drug-related issues in our state and communities.
Please find the study at our website – www.lwv-hawaii.com. To access the study, click on “Drug Policy Study”. Note that in the study all the references and footnotes are hyper-linked. Click them and you will be taken directly to the research used. We welcome your comments after you have read the study. If you need a hard copy mailed to you, please contact me.
There will be a meeting of the Women’s Health and Safety Committee Tuesday, June 3 at 12:30 p.m. in the League office to discuss the study and prepare the presentation for the Honolulu consensus meeting after Leaguers have returned from the national convention in Portland and before the state meeting in August. Tentative date for this Honolulu meeting is Wednesday June 15 at 12:30 pm, also in the League office.
