Question of Liquor in Public Parks Is Resolved

The question as to whether the use of liquor should be allowed in public parks under permit of the parks board has been resolved for the time being. First, the Board of Public Parks and Recreation decided to withdraw its support of the amendment to relax restrictions on drinking in park areas and then the Board of Supervisors voted to kill the proposed bill.

The League was one of the first groups to take action on this issue and we presented our stand publicly via news releases, communications to other organizations and statements before the Board of Supervisors and the parks board. League members were urged to make known their individual opinions to officials concerned with the problem and response to these suggestions was excellent.

Particular thanks are due Miss Ethel Spaulding of the League's Committee on Parks and Recreation for her untiring efforts on behalf of this phase of the League's activities. Mrs. Chs. Poole, Membership Chairman, her committee and individual Leaguers are also to be commended for their fine cooperation. A summary of the League action will be prepared for the file.
