Charter Committee Plans Excursion

How would you like to see where Honolulu's water comes from? A special tour is being arranged for Leaguers to visit the new Halawa Pumping Station. There will be a brief lecture at the Board of Water Supply Office with charts and maps showing Honolulu's artesian water formation. The group will then drive out to Halawa for a tour of the Halawa Pumping Station.

Since this is an underground station there will be a cable car ride several hundred feet below the earth's surface. It will be an exciting tour, as well as an opportunity to brush-up on the geographical aspects of our water supply.

The excursion is being planned to help prepare Leaguers for the August membership meeting on the governmental aspects of our water services. The Charter Group, which is making the tour arrangements, believes that it will assist our members in understanding some of the problems involved in supplying water to the people of the county.

The plan is to meet at the Board of Water Supply Office at Beretania and Alapai Streets at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30. Children over 12 years of age may accompany their mothers. It will probably be about a three-hour trip. We will need two or three cars to transport the group.

It is hoped that 12 to 16 Leaguers will be able to. attend. If you would like to participate in the tour, please call Mrs. Lillian Fortess, 96349, before Monday, July 28. If you are interested but cannot go at this time, let us know and perhaps another tour can be arranged if there is sufficient demand.
