The City and County of Honolulu is faced with pressing financial problems, as we all know. One possible means of raising revenue which has been discussed in the past is a charge for sewer service. At a meeting of the Public Works Committee, with Mayor Blaisdell present, on July 15, City Engineer William C. Vanatta proposed a sewerage charge of $1.25 for each household. He estimates that the City and County would collect a minimum of $500,000 each year by this means. No formal action has been taken, but consideration of the fee program mill continue actively. Supervisor Kauhane, chairman of the Public Works Committee, appointed a committee to study means of collecting the fee if an ordinance favoring the charge is passed.
