We're in the Semi-Finals! Honolulu may be one of eleven communities to win the title of "All-America City" this month, in the competition sponsored annually by the National Municipal League and Look Magazine. The award is given to cities showing outstanding achievements of benefit to the community as a whole, and resulting from citizen action. Honolulu entered the competition on the basis of the City-County charter, and has reached the semi-finals. The chairman and the co-chairman of the former Charter Commission, Mr. Ballard Atherton and Mr. Robert Dodge, will go to Springfield Massachusetts this week to present Honolulu's case. The Board has made available all the League's charter material for use in the Honolulu exhibit booth. This includes pictures, scrapbooks of newspaper articles, statements given at hearings, letters to the Legislature, to the Governor and others. Dr, George H. Gallup will serve as chairman of the jury, as he has done for the past eight years. Mrs. Robert J. Phillips, president of the League of Women Voters of the United States, will be one of the jurors. The jury makes preliminary choices, verifies the evidence and selects the winners.
