What Has Happened to Legislation Concerning the Voter?

Our Voters Service reports:
  1. A bill to allow new residents in the State to vote for president after less than a year's residence here, was defeated.

  2. H. B. 483 - outlining absentee ballot procedures has passed the House and is now in the Senate.

  3. H. B. 35 -. providing for an automatic recount in elections where the margin of victory falls within a specified fractional difference - has just been signed by the Governor and is now Act 7.

  4. Voting Machines - The House passed a bill providing an appropriation of $286,000 for 150 voting machines-passed the House and is now in the Senate.

  5. Defeated H. B. 1220 - This closed primary measure would have required that voters merely declare whether they want a Republican or Democratic ballot in the primary election. The House vote that killed the measure was 25 nays and 24 ayes!
