Lila Grossman has prepared a very detailed preliminary report on Federal grants to Hawaii under the Economic Opportunities Act. Hawaii's share for this fiscal year (ending June 30) will be around $1,600,000 to $1,800,000 and the appropriation can be carried over from one fiscal period to the next. Programs for the State are still under consideration at the Federal office of EOA, and cover the following areas: Community Action Programs, Project Head-Start, Neighborhood Youth Corps, Job Corps, Work Experience Program.
Under Title 1 of the Federal Aid to Education Bill, the major share of the money will go toward improving the educational opportunities of children of low income families at both elementary and secondary school levels. Hawaii's share will be at least $2.25 million.
