Local Agenda Committee

The Local Agenda Committee gathered - 22 members strong - on the Windward side on Thursday, January 27. Purpose of the meeting was twofold: to brief new members on the Committee's past actions and future plans, and to discuss the reorganization of the Committee into project subcommittees

President Nancy Dykes handled the first part of the agenda, with a discussion of "where we have been, where we are, and where we are going." Chairman Lela Brewer talked about committee reorganization, and described the function of the League's "silent service" -- the observer program that keeps the organization informed and alert on various functions of local government.

Bea Levine brought committee members Up to date on our planning activities and Mary George gave a progress report on the ethics-in-government crusade.

New Committee member Helen Talbott accepted an assignment as "Watchbird" for meetings of the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, & attended her first City Hall session that same afternoon. Gladys Gabert will monitor the meetings of the Honolulu Redevelopment Agency, Bette Sanders, a Leaguer as well as reporter, covered the meeting for the Pali Press.

The Committee scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, February 15, at 9:30 a.m. at the home of Bea Levine. The change from the regular Thursday meeting date was made to permit as wide attendance as possible at the legislative workshop sessions, scheduled for five consecutive Thursdays, beginning February 10, This will be the only meeting of the Committee in February. Mrs. Levine's address is 2182 Round Top Drive. Call her at 900-122 if you need directions or information, or call Mary George at 264-496 if you are interested in a car-pool from Kailua.

Helen Lane will chair the subcommittee on Local Reapportionment (under the Local Agenda Committee). The study group will meet evenings. If you are interested, please call Helen Lane at 576-598 or Lela Brewer at 587-94.
