League Co-Operates in T.V. Series

The League of Women Voters of the U.S. has agreed to co-operate with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and five private foundations in promoting the distribution of a series of five half-hour programs for children.

Honolulu was one of the cities chosen for a preview of the films and those Leaguers (Lila Grossman, Lucile Mundy, Ann Hansen and Nancy Rhea) who were present agreed on the value of the series. The sponsors hope that the films and other curriculum materials can constructively support local government programs in recreation, open space, beautification, historic preservation and environmental education.

The program, 'If You Live in a City, Where Do You Live?' is designed to enable children to develop a sensitivity to the workings of the environment and an understanding of how one's own actions lead to environmental deterioration, preservation, or improvement. Children will focus on their neighborhood environment, observing and describing it, evaluating how it allows them to live the kind of life they would like to live, prescribing changes to it, and evaluating the consequences of these changes.

The five 30-minute programs are geared for grades 4,5,6,7 and 8. The following broadcast schedule includes the in-school, in-service and evening viewing times on ETV, Channel 11 and 10:
