National Action Priorities

The major efforts of the LWVUS calling for activity at all levels of the League, will be concentrated on the Federal Water Pollution Control Act amendments. (FWPCA), the Clean Air Act and legislation in the jobs income assistance area.

In its lobbying on jobs, the League will emphasize direct job creation as necessary to alleviate the problem of unemployment. Prospects for legislation are: renewal and expansion of public service (VETA) jobs, public works projects, and counter- cyclical aid. The League Will also be formulating strategy and informing Leagues on income assistance programs. Reform of the food stamp program will be dealt with early in the 95th Congress, as it expires in 1977.

Other areas of League concern will be followed and given atten tion as the opportunity arises. A busy year is in store for the members of the League lobby corps.
