The Housing Coalition
A public information campaign to focus on Hawaii's housing crisis and pose possible solutions has begun under the auspices of a group known as The Housing Coalition Its initial supporters represent a cross-section of the housing industry. The Coalition is also actively seeking any others interested in working to resolve the State's housing problems.
Its basic goal is to encourage more housing on a non-discriminatory basis for Hawaii's residential market. Chairman Randolph Moore, Oceanic Properties, said, "Recent studies reinforce our apprehension about the housing industry's ability to provide Hawaii residents with an adequate supply of affordable housing. We believe a public information campaign which discusses basic housing issues will help both the private sector and government come to grips with what amounts to a housing crisis in the State today."
The campaign's activities will include speaking presentations to civic, social and other groups, newsletters, radio advertising and workshops to focus study on alternatives in housing policies.
The group has incorporated as an informational, educational non-profit organization and has established a $95,000 budget to pay for advertising expenses.
