Now Is the Time to Contact Those Who Make Decisions...

The League supports the HPOWER project proposed by the City Refuse Division. This project fits under many long standing League positions, State and National.

HPOWER will burn our refuse to generate electricity.

HPOWER is an environmentally sound system of garbage disposal. HPOWER is designed to conform with all air quality control standards.

HPOWER will use no more water than is presently used at the proposed site. HPOWER. will relieve the strain on our current landfill sites.

HPOWER will separate ferrous metals for recycling.

HPOWER will generate 5% of the electricity needed by Oahu.

HPOWER will further the State goals of energy self-sufficiency.

HPOWER will return a profit to the City in the first year of operation.

Much public opposition has arisen over the chosen site in Waipahu. The League has no position on the specific site; our testimony has concentrated on environmental standards. We will continue to support and lobby for protection of the environment around the HPOWER site.

It is necessary for our Councilmembers to know there is public support for HPOWER.

Write or call your Council representative as well as Mayor Anderson before April 15, stating your support. Send a copy of your letter to the League office if it's convenient. Call Anna Hoover, 373-9605, for further information or to report conversations.

MAYOR ANDERSON and COUNCILMEMBERS RUDY PACARRO, DANIEL CLEMENT, GEORGE AKAHANE, HIRAM FONG, TORAKI MATSUMOTO, TOM NEKOTA, ANDREW POEPOE, MARILYN BORNHORST, and FRANK LOO may be addressed:
