Report from the Hill - LWVUS

The price of Report from the Hill has been cut to a new low $6.00/year subscription price. A new format and focus on League issues which are hot on Capitol Hill have been adopted.

The goal is to create a "leaner, meaner" newsletter. Subscription orders are being taken now: Send your $6 to Report from the Hill, League of Women Voters of the United States, 1730 M St., NW, Washington, DC 20036.

The following are excerpts from the Oct. 1985 issue:

CIVIL RIGHTS RESTORATION ACT (CRRA) seeks to restore the law to where it was prior to the Supreme Court's sweeping Grove City College v. Bell decision, which effectively gutted several major civil rights laws protecting women, minorities, the aged and the disabled. The decision permits federally funded institutions to discriminate against these groups in all but the specific programs or activities receiving federal money.

UNIFORM POLL CLOSING LEGISLATION has been stalled in the House Administration Committee. League President Dorothy S. Ridings testified on the bill recently saying that it will take more than a uniform poll closing law to solve the early projections problem. A study documenting the failure of the major television networks to comply with their stated policies of not projecting early will be released.
