Vocational and Alternative EducationThe State League adopted, in May 1985, a study of vocational and alternative education in middle and secondary schools as a means for improving education for Hawaii'! youth. Committee members have wrestled with a definition of alternative education - a good beginning! - and have sought information from in-state and from main-land sources in order to look at this subject. The committee has this as its working definition: Alternatives are choices (options) that bring into consideration programs or projects that are non-traditional. It is hoped to hold a conference in November (possibly the 2nd or 3rd week) to inform the community and provide a forum for discussion of wider alternatives in education. Resources would include educators from the mainland. Come forward and offer your help with the conference - as a helper.
