Debate '88

KGMB Channel 9 has agreed to co-sponsor and carry live the Mayoral Primary and General election debates as well as the First Congressional District General election debate.

These debates will be carried live from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on August 31, October 3, and October, 10.

The League is committed to making certain that there is an informed electorate. One way is by presenting candidates in face-to-face forums. These debates provide an alternative to brief clips on newscasts and the slick sales pitch of campaign brochures and advertisements. These debates will assist in giving voters the information they need to make informed choices. We believe that candidates owe it to the people to appear before them in forums presented by non-partisan organizations such as the League of Women Voters.

Each debate will be controlled by a neutral moderator. The candidates will be asked to respond with specified time limits to questions posed by three panelists chosen jointly by the League and KGMB.

League is in the process of getting commitment's from candidates for these debates.

Viewers are being asked to write in questions to KGMB, that they would like answered .by the candidates. These questions will be reviewed by members of League and KGMB, and may be included in the debate. This is your chance to get your concerns aired, so get out your pens or uncover your typewriters and GO FOR IT.
