HGEA Vote Count
At long last, we have contracted to do the HGEA vote count. This is a new account that we have been trying for years to add to our major vote count schedule. We want to do a top notch job of conducting this election because the outcome will determine our future relationship with HGEA.
Like the Teamsters election in October and the just completed Local 5 election, all the ballots are being mailed to our office, where the preliminary sorting and verification will take place.
This election is a special one to replace a director who has resigned. There will be only two candidates running for one office. However, the eligible voters for this election total approximately 9000. With an anticipated return of 40-50% of the ballots, we are looking at sorting 3600 to 4500 ballots.
For those members who have worked on the Teamsters and Local 5 mail-ins, you know the necessity of a steady group of workers in the office to keep up with the mail. The volunteer time can be anywhere from one hour to four hours.
It is important that we know in advance who will be coming in and when and for how long--so that we can determine what will need to be done, and so that volunteers need not have idle waiting periods.
The ballots will be mailed out on January 26 or 27. We will give a few days for the returns to accumulate and begin the sorting process on Wednesday, February 1. The cut-off period for ballots to be mailed back to us is Tuesday, February 14. The actual tally will be done at the HGEA offices on the 7th floor of 888 Queen Street on Saturday, February 18, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and probably completed after lunch at 1:00 p.m.
We will need 4 volunteers each day in the office from noon to 4:00 p.m. from February 1 to 3, 6 to 11, and 13 to 16. We will also need 20 talliers on February 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE NOW AND DO YOUR BIT FOR LEAGUE!
