What do I remember about the Neighborhood Board vote count? The never ending sound of a paper cutting machine opening thousands of envelopes each containing another envelope to be opened by hand and extracting a ballot from which we had to sometimes pluck off a hanging shad, or two, or three, or four The pressure of so much work, so little time, and so few bodies in sight to do the job. I also remember the fun and fellowship and relating to people that helped to ease the tension as we did the mindless, but important, money-making work.
