"DIALOG"

JUNE 16, 1989, 8:00 - 9:00 P. M.

HAWAII PUBLIC TELEVISION, KHET CHANNEL 11 OR 10

Astrid Monson, League's Planning and Zoning Chair will be one of four panelists on Public Television's "Dialog", on Friday evening, June 16, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. The subject will be "Proposals to Raise Heights and Densities for the Convention Center and the Downtown Financial Center" which League has opposed.

Other panelists are expected to be City Council Planning Chair Leigh Wai Doo, City Chief Planning Officer Donald Clegg, and Downtown Improvement Association's Executive Director, William Grant.

The March 17 Aloha Voter carried a summary of the "Pros and Cons" of a 500-foot height limit for Downtown Honolulu. Since then League has been carrying on correspondence on the matter with the Downtown Improvement Association. George Mason's Pacific Business News has had two articles agreeing essentially with League's position on this matter.

On April 11, President Arlene Kim Ellis testified before the City Council against increasing heights and densities for a Convention Center in the Aloha Motors site. On April 20, we commented to the Chief Planning Officer opposing the proposed Development Plan amendment increasing Downtown heights to 500 feet.

Dial channel 11/10, KHET on June 16, and call in your comments, questions or reactions on the subject of raising the heights of our future buildings.
