United Nations to Focus on Women in the '90s

The League of Women Voters is one of many nongovernmental organizations accredited by the United Nations. Linda Moscarella is the League's official UN observer.

Some highlights from her observations: The unfolding miracle in Eastern Europe has had, and continues to have, a positive effect on the UN, particularly on the effectiveness of the Security Council and its peacekeeping efforts. Attitudes around the world toward the UN are more conciliatory.

The United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) has made investing in women the focus for the 1990's because women are at the heart of development and are a key to controlling population.
