Hawaii Forum: Confronting Issues in an Island Society

General Membership Meeting

The Annual Program Planning Meeting for the League of Women Voters of Honolulu will be held at the Trellisses Restaurant, Outrigger Prince Kuhio Hotel, on December 4. (See President's message) Registration will _,begin at 9:30 A.M. with coffee: service, and the business meeting will begin promptly at 10:00 A.M. and will end at 11:30 A.M.

Lunch will be served at 11:45 A.M. The cost of lunch is $12.75 including tax, gratuity and parking. We are fortunate to have Robert M. Rees as our speaker who will discuss "What to Expect in 1994; The Major Issues; The Legislature; The Elections."

Robert Rees is on the faculties of the University of Hawaii (American Studies and the College of Business Administration) and the Japan-America Institute of Management Science (American Politics), both located in Honolulu.

Rees is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University and holder of graduate degrees from U.C. Berkeley (Haines Fellow at Large in Political Science) and Columbia University (Dean's List). He also has attended special sessions on American History at Harvard University.

In addition, Rees is producer and moderator of KFVE Channel 5's Island Issues. Island Issues has developed a reputation among Hawaii's opinion leaders as the single most relevant and important television viewing when it comes to exploring the different sides of issues important to the Asia-Pacific.

Rees also writes interesting, penetrating commentary for the "Honolulu Weekly" and for the "Pacific Business News" newspapers. He has been published in numerous magazines and most recently is the author of two chapters in the book on Hawaii, The Price of Paradise Volume II.
