Dear Aloha Voter Editor:
I thought your October issue was especially interesting. I always find it informative.
The article "Waterfront Plan Presented," omitted several things that deserve close scrutiny by the League and answers by the state.
The original deal set up by the Aloha Tower Group, called for them to put up $60 million at the signing of the master lease. They defaulted on this. They contracted to build 1800 underground parking stalls. They defaulted on this and the last I heard, the state was talking of borrowing $40 million to build parking stalls of their own! The last part of the deal is that the state would be paid off $4 billion in land rents over the next 65 years. Would you trust and continue to do business with a developer who has already defaulted twice to the tune of a $100 million plus? If other developers had known they would be let off the hook in the amount of $100 million, would they have offered the state a better deal without presenting it to the people? After all, it's our money
I hope you can find these answers for me and other taxpayers who are or should be interested.
