Marion Saunders Honored

"A Living Treasure" award will be conferred upon League member Marion Saunders by the Hongwanji Mission on February 11 in recognition of her major contributions toward motivating people to fulfill their potential.

Marion, together with her late husband Alan Saunders, founded the League of Women Voters of Honolulu in 1948. Through Marion's sole efforts local Leagues were formed on Kauai and Hawaii, enabling the State League to come into being in 1965. Marion has worked continuously over the last 46 years in the field of Education and Education Reform in Hawaii. Marion Saunders is a well-known name to legislators who often seek her expertise in enacting education legislation. Her dedication and involvement in the overall betterment of the community took the form of working for the Equal. Rights Amendment, prison reform for Honolulu, serving On the Board of Education and active participation at the East-West Center, among many other issues.

The award will be presented at the opening of the 82nd Legislative Assembly of the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin on 1727 Pali Highway at 8:30 A. M.
