OCCC Voter Registration

Two years ago we discovered that a group of citizens were being denied their right to vote. There were hundreds of people who were incarcerated at Oahu Community Correctional Center who did not have the means or opportunity to register to vote.

Through much trial and tribulation, the League finally cut through the bureaucracy and obtained permission to send a group of Leaguers to OCCC armed with voter registration and absentee ballot forms to service those inmates who were awaiting trial and qualified to vote. We were unable to register them for the Primary Election, but we did manage to get under the wire for the General Election.

This year, to and behold, we have been approached by the prison officials to repeat our performance. The dates are not set yet, but they will occur before the Primary Election registration deadline of August 18 and before the General Election deadline of October 10.

We will need eight volunteers to spend approximately two hours on each day. Call the office if you are interested.
