Focus on School Reform
To support and expand efforts to prevent violence in our homes, schools and communities, the Honolulu League's Human Resources committee is working on this important State issue with the Violence Prevention Subcommittee of the Hawaii Women's Legislative Coalition.
The outcome of this grassroots effort was the adoption of HCR 150 and SCR 191 and 172. These resolutions establish a Violence Prevention Coordinating Council to address the integration of violence prevention curricula in public schools.
The council will report to the 1966 legislature on the extent of current violence prevention efforts initiated by the DOE and various private, nonprofit agencies and to establish guidelines for the learning objectives each public school should minimally include in their violence prevention curricula.
Everyone is welcome to participate to help make Hawaii violence-free. Please call the office if you're interested.
