League Celebrates 75th Birthday of Ratification of the 19th Amendment and the LWV

The National Coalition to Commemorate Ratification of the 19th Amendment will hold a walk and rally in Washington, D.C. on August 26. The single most important event in the history of American women, the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote, and changed our lives forever.

The League of Women voters of Kauai will commemorate the anniversary of both events with a celebration on Saturday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m. on the front Lawn of the County building, located at 4396 Rice St. The LWV-KC is seeking individuals in Hawaii who are interested in participating in this event. If you know a woman who has demonstrated leadership and participation in the voting process, particularly in regard to Hawaii's history or for more information For more information, call Susan Wilson in Kauai at 826-6332, Carol Bain at 246-2111 or Rhea Palma at 822-6980.

Honolulu League invites interested members and friends to a special showing of a two-hour PBS documentary, "One Woman One Vote," on Friday, August 25 at 2:00 PM in the League office. "One Woman One Vote" focuses on the highlights of 72 years of the suffrage movement, beginning with the first women's rights convention in 1848 and climaxing in passage of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920. It is a thrilling story of women determinedly working generation after generation to win the rights of full American citizenship, and the story of those women and men who fought against suffrage. Refreshments will be served. Please join us.
