Recycling and composting will reduce the amount of waste going into disposal sites. Existing landfills will last longer and expensive expansions to H-Power may not be needed. In 1988, the year before the City began organizing its recycling effort, Oahu recycled approximately 80,000 tons of material. By 1993, Oahu's recycling rate increased by 150,000 tons, and grew to another 50,000 tons in 1994. Call the office to find out where your nearest recycling center is located.
