State League's "Facts and Issues" publication has been distributed to our members statewide, and Honolulu is in the process of compiling the consensus questionnaires sent to all of our members.
Grace Furukawa spearheaded the drive to call Honolulu members to return the questionnaires, and thanks to Grace, Luree Hays, Betty Goodwin, Jackie Parnell, Yvonne Kearns, Joanne Green, Pearl Johnson, and Evangeline Funk, we have had an excellent response. Your comments were especially interesting. Mahalo for your cooperation.
A few members did show up for the scheduled meeting on August 2, and we had a lively discussion on the different forms of gambling, and the pros, and cons of gambling as a means of raising revenue. These discussions are always informative. Even when conducting a consensus by mail, we like to set aside a meeting date so that those who feel the need will have an opportunity to exchange views and to ask questions.
The Honolulu Board will determine the consensus result at its Sept. 11th meeting and send it to the State Board which will adopt the State League position on this issue at its meeting on October 18.
Those of you who neglected to mail your consensus forms to the office can do so as we continue to compile them.
