Congresswoman Patsy Mink Receives BPW Award

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink (Hawaii, 2nd District) will receive a "Women Mean Business" Award from Business and Professional Women/USA (BPW/USA) at a special dinner in Washington, D.C., on February 5th, 1998. The award recognized individuals and companies that have demonstrated leadership and commitment to women's equity in the workplace.

In announcing this award, BPW Executive Director Gail S. Shafer cited Congresswoman Mink's "exceptional record of leadership - spanning three decades - on issues of critical importance to American women." Shaver states that Mink's "accomplishments clearly demonstrate that being a tough, effective lawmaker is a function of talent and intellect rather than gender."

A long-time member of BPW's Honolulu Chapter, congresswoman Mink expressed her delight at receiving this great honor from BPW/USA, an organization she holds in high esteem: "BPW/USA is marking it 79th anniversary as the leading advocated for working women. I am proud of my long association with this fine organization and am deeply honored to join the company of distinguished women who have received this award." 1998 marks the fifth annual presentation of these awards.
