Hawaii Election Project Hires Representative Brian Schatz

Brian Schatz, Executive Director of Hawai'i Elections Project

Hawaii Elections Project, the education and research affiliate of Hawaii Clean Elections, is happy to welcome Rep. Brian Schatz on-board as our new Executive Director (ED) for the duration of the legislative interim. Schatz is the former organizer and Executive Director of Youth for Environmental Service (YES), a successful nonprofit which encourages young people to volunteer for environmental projects. In 1994, he was elected as a State House Representative for the 24th District (Makiki). When we were seeking an ED, we called him to inquire if he knew of any good prospects, and were delighted when he said he was available during the interim.

Brian brings to the Project solid grassroots organizing and fundraising skills, both critical to our 1999 agenda for comprehensive campaign finance reform through Clean Elections. He's jumped right into the public education efforts, and is already energetically re-organizing our resources to best use. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the issue are HUGE and we're delighted to have found such a great match for our ED position.

If you would like to volunteer with HICLEAN and the Hawaii Elections Project, Brian can be reached at the League office: 531-7448 or by email at:
