The League of Women Voters is a Member of the
Hawai'i Coalition Against Legalized Gambling (HCALG)

As part of the Coalition we have opposed cockfighting as well as other forms of gambling. Cockfighting is a particularly nasty blood sport which is consistant with the Hawaii Humane Society's efforts to prevent cruelty against animals. If you wish to participate in the following effort, please sign the enclosed petition and ask your friends and neighbors to fill it out also You may leave the social security information blank if you wish..

Please mail it back to the League as soon as possible. 49 S. Hotel Street, Suite 314, Honolulu, HI 96813. Mahalo.

Experts from the Police Department and elsewhere have been unequivocal - cockfighting NEVER occurs without gambling as its central component.

As a result the League of Women Voters is participating in the Hawaii Humane Society's efforts to prevent legalized cockfighting in Hawaii.

We the undersigned registered voters of the state of Hawaii, are opposed to the legalization of cockfighting in any form. We strongly encourage every Councilmember, Mayor, State Representative, State Senator, U.S. Senator, U.S. Congressperson and the Governor to keep cockfighting illegal in the state of Hawaii. Cockfighting is cruel to animals and studies show that violence against animals often leads to violence against humans. Please help us keep Hawaii free from acts of animal cruelty and human violence. Vote NO for any bill supporting the legalization of cockfighting. If you have questions regarding this petition please call 946-2187 ext. 222.
