The Planning Department has announced that Wilson Okamoto Corporation of Honolulu has been selected as the consultant to conduct the North and South Kona Community Development Plan (CDP).

The consultant has put together an exciting project team offering national-recognized expertise to help with various aspects of the planning process; including the Environmental Simulation Center – New York, ACP – Visioning & Planning, Ltd. – Ohio, Harrison B. Rue – Virginia, Charlier Associates, Inc. - Colorado, David Paul Rosen & Associates, California and Will Allen – North Carolina.

Recognizing that rapid growth is occurring in the Kona area, there is an urgent need to develop a long range plan to manage growth for the North and South Kona districts.

Calling for applicants to North and South Kona Steering Committee

In conformance with the General Plan requirements, the first step is to develop a North and South Kona Steering Committee. The consultant will berequired to work with this volunteer steering committee to ensure that the planning process is inclusive and reflects a broad-based public involvement process and that the CDP document is prepared in the best interest of the health and welfare of the community.

Steering committee members will be asked to attend steering committee meetings, participate in training, attend community workshops, and be a source of information about the CDP process for individuals and community groups. Other responsibilities will evolve as the committee begins its work.
