League Leaves HI-Clean

At its August 7, 2004 meeting, the State Board voted to terminate its membership in the Hawaii Clean Elections coalition because of differences over certain policies and strategies.

For six years, League has been part of the coalition's efforts in advocating the adoption of the public funding of election campaigns so that the citizens of our state, and eventually the nation, can take back our elections from the control of special interests. League will continue our advocacy on this issue.

Freed from the restraints on its actions placed by League policies, Hawaii Clean Elections can now operate as it wishes, and we wish them every success.
