Candidates for 2007 State Board

And an Opportunity for YOU to Serve Your League

LWVHI bylaws call for election of the state Board officers and directors for a two-year term at the biennial Convention, which will be held on April 28, 2007 at Tokai University.

There are eight positions to be filled by election: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and four Directors. Under the bylaws, the full Board will additionally have up to four appointed Directors plus the president or designee of each local League.

The following are the seven well-qualified candidates on the slate. We continue to seek a nominee for the eighth position of Secretary.

Officers (4):
   PresidentJackie Parnell
   Vice PresidentSue Irvine
   Secretary???
   TreasurerDiana Cummings
Directors (4):
    Valere McFarland
    Suzanne Meisenzahl
    Sue Miller
    Mary Anne Raywid

The Nominating Committee, comprised of Beppie Shapiro, Evangeline Funk and chair JoAnn Maruoka, thanks all those who have agreed to stand for election.

We Want YOU. We encourage you to consider being the candidate for state Board Secretary. It's your chance to contribute a relatively small amount of time and effort to make a big difference.

The duties are to keep minutes of conventions and councils of LWVHI and of meetings of the state board; notify Officers and Directors of their election; and perform other functions that are incidental to the office of Secretary. During the two-year term, there will only be one council meeting (even numbered year) and one convention (odd numbered year), and quarterly board meetings. Generally, minutes are distributed to board members by email, with a hard copy filed at the League office.

If you're willing to be a vital team member on the state Board, please contact Nominating Committee chair JoAnn Maruoka now! You can reach her by email at maruokaj@hawaii.rr.com, or leave a phone message at the League office (808) 531-7448. Remember, it's YOUR opportunity to help the League and to have fun doing it.
