This year's honoree, Hawaii Thousand Friends' executive director, Donna Wong, who has volunteered tirelessly for over thirty years to protect Hawaii's environment, will receive a check for $5,000 from the Donald & Astrid Monson Trust through the LWVHNL Education Fund. Elizabeth Reilly has generously volunteered to chair this event (also a fundraiser for Honolulu League).The $50 per person cost includes hearty pupus, one cocktail, live music, and valet parking. Saturday, Nov. 21: State LWV Board meets at 9:30 a.m. at the League office, Empire Building, 3rd floor, Hotel St. (makai side, Diamond Head of Bethel St). Members are welcome to attend. Call the office so someone can let you into the locked building (531-7448). Saturday Dec 5, 8:30 am – Honolulu LWV planning meeting at Hale Koa hotel December 15th. National Bill of Rights Day. With so many holidays occurring in December, rather than holding a program to recognize Bill of Rights Day a simpler method could be used. Last year many creative Leagues used less time consuming and labor intensive ways to recognize the Bill of Rights in mid-December. January 18, 2010. Martin Luther King, Jr. parade.
