The local environmental problems of yesterday have escalated to become today's world-wide environmental crisis. To weigh the seriousness of the situation, over 1000 delegates from nearly 130 nations gather in Stockholm June 5-16 to participate in the Conference on the Human Environment.
For the first time, a United Nations sponsored conference will focus the world's attention on the nature, magnitude and urgency of our earth's troubles. In discussing the possibilities of a global approach to environmental problems, the conference hopes to set the stage for international accord in combatting pollution. It will be up to the national governments to cooperate in implementing the conference's proposals and recommendations,
Of special encouragement to Leaguers is the predicted possibility of international agreement on ocean dumping.
