Petition Drive Hawaii LVW and Common Cause gathered just over 2000 signatures on the LVW-sponsored petition drive calling for limitations on contributions and expenditures, full disclosure, and a system of partial public funding of campaigns. They were sent to Senator Hiram Fong with an explanatory letter. Senator Inouye, and Representatives Mink and Matsunaga were also informed. In collecting the signatures our members faced varying public attitudes. Many people seemed indifferent, or distrustful of all politicians. Most objected to was the section on public funding. Citizens were unwilling to let the government manage any more money. It was a most revealing and interesting experience. Thank you to all who helped in the drive.
