What Does the Future Hold for League? (Carol Whitesell)
The LWVUS will be sponsoring debates during the 1984 primary season.
The League President Dorothy S. Ridings announced that candidates Reubin Askew, Alan Cranston, John Glenn, Gary Hart, Ernest Hollings,George McGovern, and Walter Mondale have pledged their intention to participate in the League's primary debates scheduled in Manchester, N.H., on February 22 and Atlanta, Georgia, on March 11.
Jesse Jackson has also been invited to participate but as of yet no response has been received.
Beyond the first two primary debates, the League plans to sponsor two more debates during the primary season, and up to four presidential debates between Labor Day and election day 1984.
As it did for the 1976 and 1980 presidential debates series, the League plans to have an audience at each 1984 debate and is inviting all media to cover them.
