Meet Kris Nowell: 1986 Legislative Aide

You see her at the State Capitol on a regular basis, picking up and sorting through a myriad of bills, and delivering them to league members. She has an eye on hearing dates and insures league attendance at them. And above all, she has the energy, patience and drive that are necessary for her job as the league's 1986 legislative aide.

Kris Nowell, a senior at West Oahu College majoring in justice administration, is filling this demanding position this year. In addition to her legislative aide duties and studies, she is doing volunteer work for Senator Anthony Chang and managing a household which includes her husband Doug and two children.

Nowell moved to Hawaii in 1982 from Japan where she lived for 3 years. Last year she served as student intern in Senator Chang's office, which fueled her desire for more legislative work. Nowell plans to move to Rhode Island in June, and return to her home state of Washington after a few years there. At that time, she would like to attend law school.

Says Anne Lee, one of her teachers at West Oahu College, "Kris is a delight to have as a student. I have every confidence that she will do an outstanding job as the league's legislative aide. We are delighted to have Kris in our league even if it is for such a short time. We hope her experience here will encourage her to continue her league membership wherever she moves."
