President's Message

CHECK IT OUT AND CHECK IN for a great time ... Convention '87 is just around the corner. The convention committee has worked hard to put together a series of exciting events: from business to stimulating speakers. We look forward to seeing many of you at the Ala Moana Americana Hotel on May 30 and 31. Thanks are due to Marion Hatton, chair; Betsy Essoiyan and Audry Huter for their work.

ALL League members are welcome in addition to the delegates representing each local league, the state board and the education fund. Based on January 1, 1987 membership counts Hawaii. County can send two delegates plus their president, Honolulu-16 delegates plus president, and Kauai-two delegates plus president. There are 10 state board members and one education fund delegate who will also attend.

REGISTRATION forms were sent to all members-but in case you didn't get one or have misplaced it, there is a form included in this issue of Leo Hana. I urge you to CHECK IN for Convention. 87.

One of the events which I particularly look forward to at convention will be a sneak preview of the public service announcements which will run on KHON-TV 2 during the summer. This is our-the blessings of liberty ... project which is co-sponsored with Channel 2 for celebrating the bicentennial of the constitution.

Also included in this issue are the following important items: the proposed budget, recommended and non-recommended program, and recommended and non-recommended bylaw proposals. These will be voted upon at convention.

Mahalo to all those who worked so hard on getting these tasks done .... Sue Francis, chair; Judy Dolata, Wendy Wong, and Vicki Zaleski of the budget committee; Dorothy Bremner, chair; Evelyn Bender, Cira de Castillo, and Carole Westby of the bylaws committee; and members of the Hawaii County and Kauai leagues for sending in program and bylaws proposals. The state board had some very interesting discussions as a result of your work and appreciate the wonderful food for thought you provided. We know that your work will result in a good convention. Also included in this Leo Hana is the report of the nominating committee and I want to thank them too for all their efforts-Carol Whitesell, chair; Tisha Hickson, Yvonne Kearns, Dee Lum, and Muriel Roberts.

There are, of course, many other leaguers who deserve thanks for all the work they have done. for the state league over the past two years. .. the list would be long ...please know that we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
