From the Local Leagues...

Highlights of local Leagues' activities over the past few months include:

Hawai'i County

  • Completed its study of shoreline access and beach preservation and came to consensus (1) favoring the enactment of a Shoreline Access

    Ordinance by the Hawai'i County Council, and (2) supporting retention of Makalawena Beach in Kona as conservation land and prohibiting resort development there

  • Kailua-Kona unit held two open forums, one on the proposed Ka'u Spaceport and one on deep sea mining for cobalt and manganese in Hawaiian waters, featuring experts from the community

Honolulu

  • Held "Running to Win" seminar in November, encouraging grassroots effort in running for office, organizing campaigns, and addressing favorite issues

  • Presents "Issues at Large" every Monday night at 7 p.m. on Channel 20 TV

Kaua'i

  • Held successful Christmas bake sale at which they handed out information on the League

  • Are planning Valentine's Day bake sale to be accompanied by Voters Service information
