Leaguers in ActionState board member Patricia Card, assistant professor of English as a second language at Chaminade University, will be a featured speaker at the 29th Annual TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Convention in March 1995 according to Chaminade's In Focus fall issue. Ms. Card will be discussing the use of cooperative learning in an intermediate ESL writing class using information from her experience in resource development and teacher training and the results of classroom research conducted at Chaminade.
Meda Chesney-Lind, a member of the Honolulu league, has received the University of Hawai'i's Regents' Medal for Excellence in Research. As reported in the fall/winter 1994 issue of Malamalama, her study of women and the justice system led to further explorations of the victimization of women and girls and her eventual professorship in Women's Studies Program at the Manoa campus.
