The League of Women Voters strongly supports HB 842, which requires that each legislator’s voting record be available online on every measure on which a vote is taken in committee or on the floor. Online access to voting records is an efficient means that helps enable openness in government. It is also a sound way to support the citizen’s right to know, and to facilitate citizen participation in government.

Legislators’ constituencies are entitled to know how they are being represented in votes on issues, and online access will help provide that information in a timely, meaningful way. It will also likely encourage more public engagement with their elected representatives on issues. The transparency afforded by online access to voting records would help boost public confidence in openness of the legislative process.

We urge you to pass HB 842. Thank you for the opportunity to testify on this bill.
