Chair Nishimoto, Vice Chair Mizuno and Members of the Committee on Legislative Management:
The League of Women Voters of Hawaii supports HB 1132 that changes the deadline for a legislator to file his or her annual financial disclosure statement from May 1 to January 31. This measure will set the filing dates for financial disclousre so that the filings will occur early in the legislature session, thus giving the publc the opportunity to compare the positions taken by a legislator with the disclosed financial interests.
This measure is a step to improve public confidence in government. For government to work people must have faith in the integrity of its elected officials and early access to financial interests will aid in establishing this trust. We urge you to pass HB 1132.
Thank you of the opportunity of submit testimony.
