Chair Yamane, Vice Chair Nishimoto and members of the Committee on Health

The League of Women Voters of Hawaii Supports HB 1782 with reservations which establishes in Hawaii a health information exchange.

The League state wide as well as nationally supports an economical delivery of health care, and encourages advancement of medical technology to reduce health care costs as we move into a universal system of delivery of health care and reduce health care costs.

Our reservations are related to the security of such information and the state of Hawaii’s plans to assure not only total interfaced care, but funding to assure that these avenues of information exchange provide total adherence to the HIPA regulations and much more, that all persons whose health care records are exchanged be confident in the safety of those exchanges, and that those exchanges provide them with quality levels of health care at all times without stigma related to previous health care received

We support passage of HB1782. with these conditions

Thank you for the opportunity to testify in support of HB 1782
