Chair Taniguchi, Vice Chair Takamine, members of JGO Committee,

The League of Women Voters supports SB 856 which would extend the expiration date of certificates of identification from six years to eight years and seems to simplify and clarify the transition of the expiration date to people's birthday.

The extension of the expiration date to eight years will not only cut the cost to government and to the individuals who require the Ids, it means some relief from having to find the time to go to where ever the service is offered. Today when workers and the unemployed are harassed by difficulty in making ends meet and the horrible traffic and parking situation, even the extension of two years is much appreciated.

We urge the passage of this bill. Thank you.
