The League of Women Voters strongly supports S.B 1731, which appropriates funds for the Bridge to Hope education in Dept. of Human Services program and its effort to maintain post-secondary education for all its clients.

We support post-secondary education for people on the welfare rolls to prepare themselves for economic independence and more fulfilling employment and to really help our community by becoming more fully contributing members. Given this opportunity these people can then serve as role models for their own children as well as those on welfare who wish to follow in their footsteps.

Federal funds are limited, the only way for our community to maintain and achieve required benchmark participation and also support clients receiving post-secondary education is to fund a separate program with State dollars. That is what this bill does.

We urge you to support S.B.1731. Thank you for this opportunity to support this bill.
