Political Slips of Tongue(from the Milwaukee Journal)Wisconsin's Capitol has been a virtual mother lode of malapropisms and former Gov. Warren Knowles has been collecting them. For instance: Assemblyman John Pritchard - "If we wait any longer, it will be too late to lock the barn after the horse is stolen." F.V.Peters, lobbyist - "None of them facts are factual facts." Sen. Ben Tremain - "I'm in favor of letting the status quo stay as it is. Sen. Gerald Lorge - "That was a low blow between the belt." Former Sheriff Clem Michalski - "This common council is entirely too laxative about some matters." Knowles has a special category called "Sussmanisms" in honor of the late Sen. Norman Sussman: "By the way, before I start talking I want to say..." "I have no political affliction at this time." "I misquoted myself." "I'm not interested in rehashing old sores." "The bankers' pockets are bulging with the sweat of the honest working men." "I can tell you stories that will make your head stand on end." "I know I'm waging a terrific fight for defeat." "My integrity was imposed upon!" (Someone should take notes at our local council meetings or legislature - with a tape, maybe?, At our recent League event at City. Hall: Anon;- "You have to think in terms of what you're talking about!")
