Lobbying Workshop

Twelve of us attended a Legislative Lobbying Workshop in the State Capitol on November 29--so now 12 Leaguers know how the League goes about the business of lobbying. Twelve of us know how to do legislative interviews, how to lobby, how the

House committee system is organized, and what League legislative priorities for the coming session are going to be. Twelve is not enough. More than 250 of you missed a very good workshop.

Millicent Kim of the House Majority Research staff explained the House Committee system, which even veteran lobbyists like Joyce Miller and Muriel Roberts agreed was important information they wished they had had before they became League lobbyists.

Muriel Roberts, former Legislative coordinator for the League, described League lobbying techniques from Legislative interviews to actual lobbying and pursuing bills from committee to committee, House to House.

Jerry Hess discussed what the next Legislature will have to accomplish in the coming session and how the League priorities will fit into the process.

The workshop was preceded by a tour of Iolani Palace arranged by Joyce Miller, Honolulu program chairman, who also set up the Workshop.

A lot of work and many arrangements had to be made to get this program together. Those 12 lucky League members who received the benefit from the workshop are now well informed on the Legislature. We wish the rest of you had made it.
